What do we know about Ezekiel Hamilton and his father, James Hamilton?

1. Ezekiel Hamilton was born in 1819 in Ireland, possibly Londonderry, Ireland. He and his wife Lydia Pennock had 7 children, one of which was Pennock Fred Hamilton. They married on March 7, 1847 in West Fallow Twp., Chester County, PA. He must have been somewhat well off to own his own farm at the age of 31. The census of 1850 gave his occupation as a farmer and the value of his real estate was $2,000.00. Living with him in 1850 were his wife Lydia Pennock and their two year old daughter, May Jane Hamilton. He must have been fairly well off when he immigrated from Ireland, probably sometime between 1845 and 1846. It is very possible that he immigrated from Ireland because of the potato famine, which started in 1845. At the time he immigrated, both parents were probably deceased. His father James died in 1838 but we do not know the year of death of his stepmother, Margaret Scott. Many Irish immigrants were laborers and could not read or write. Ezekiel could read and write, according to the census. He is buried at West Grove Friends Meeting, West Grove, PA.
2. We are fairly certain there was a possible brother and sister who immigrated with Ezekiel. A sister lived in Parksburg, PA and a possible brother, James Hamilton Jr. lived in Willistown Twp., Chester County. James shows up on the 1850 census as an Irish immigrant who could also read and write. His possible brother Ezekiel Hamilton named his last child Willis, possibly after Willistown, where James lived. This information has not yet been confirmed.
3. His parents were James Hamilton and a stepmother, Margaret Scott. James and Margaret were married in 1821, two years after Ezekiel was born.
4. James Hamilton was born in the village of Stonehouse, in the county of Lanarkshire, about 50 miles south of Glasgow, Scotland. He was born in 1796 and married Margaret Scott in 1821. He died in Londonderry, Ireland in 1838. He was 42 years old when he died.
